August 17, 1786 in Connecticut, and died November 27, 1849 in Jefferson
County, Wisconsin. He married SALLY WOODWARD October 20, 1812 in
Little Falls, New York (marriage year could be 1813). She was born May
19, 1793 in New York, and died January 14, 1882 in Trempealeau County,
Wisconsin. John Sherwood received a land patent for 40 acres in
Jefferson County, Wisconsin, in 1848. 2. BETSY ANN SHERWOOD was
born July 15, 1813 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, and died
December 17, 1841. She married PHILETUS McNITT. He was born 1808
in New York. 6. LYMAN DURAND McNITT was born March 10, 1836 in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania, and died March 4, 1892 in Whitehall, Trempealeau, Wisconsin. He married MARY ELIZABETH SHAW, daughter of ANGELOAH SHAW and ELIZABETH SAPNEY. She was born July 7, 1850 in Lydon, Cattaraugus, New York, and died February 25, 1887 in Whitehall, Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Children of LYMAN McNITT and MARY SHAW are: i. MYRTLE MABLE McNITT, b. CARTER PARSONS SHERWOOD was born August 8, 1861 in Whitehall, Wisconsin, and died October 18, 1929 in Rochester, Minnesota. According to the 1880 census for Whitehall, Trempealeau, Wisconsin, Carter was 18 years old, single, son of Andrew Sherwood, and worked in a printing office. He married (1) FRANKIE BENNETT October 21, 1883 in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin. She died January 7, 1884 in Trempealeau Co., Wisconsin. Marriage note, De Smet Leader, Oct. 27, 1883: Carter P. Sherwood of De Smet to Frankie E. Bennett of Madison, Wis, Oct. 21, 1883, at Madison, Wis. He married (2) AUGUSTA "GUSSIE" ELGETHA MASTERS April 11, 1888 in De Smet, Dakota Territory, daughter of SAMUEL MASTERS and MARGARET FARRINGTON. She was born April 4, 1859 in Hornby, New York, and died Abt. 1926. C. P. Sherwood and G. Elgetha Masters were married at the residence of S. O. Masters in Kingsbury County, Dakota Territory, by C. He was born June 23, 1860 in Boscobel, Wisconsin, and died July 30, 1954 in Fairmont, Minnesota. Child of MARY WADE and ELMORE HOUGHTALING is: i. LYN HOUGHTALING (19), b. Abt. 1890. 13. BERT C. WADE married ______ ________. The De Smet Leader , December 8, 1883 Mr. Bert Wade of Fairmont, Minn., a knight of the types, arrived here last Wednesday and is at work on The Leader. EDITH MAY WADE was born May 10, 1874, and died August 13, 1935. She married (1) HARRY BLUFF PULVER. He was born April 23, 1875, and died April 24, 1957. She married (2) CHARLES WAKEY. REGINALD CARTER SHERWOOD was born August 6, 1891 in De Smet, Kingsbury, South Dakota. He met ORILLA HOUGH in 1916. AUBREY HOWELLS SHERWOOD was born November 7, 1894 in De Smet,
Kingsbury, South Dakota, and died December 19, 1987 in De Smet,
Kingsbury, South Dakota. He married LAURA CONSTANCE ENGEBRETSON
June 27, 1925 in Garretson, South Dakota, daughter of JOHN ENGEBRETSON
and CHRISTINE HOVE. She was born October 29, 1898 in Garretson, South
Dakota, and died July 11, 1992 in De Smet, Kingsbury, South Dakota. A native of De Smet, Aubrey grew up and attended school in De Smet. He graduated from South Dakota State College in 1917, served in the Air Force during World War I, and joined his father in the newspaper publishing business in 1919. He retired from the newspaper business in 1977, but continued in his capacity as a De Smet promoter in an office downtown. He is best known for his encouragement of the Harvey Dunn collection at South Dakota State University and for his devotion to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Society. Aubrey was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge, The Order of Eastern Star, the Kiwanis Club, the American Legion, and the South Dakota Press Association, having served as its president. Children of AUBREY SHERWOOD and LAURA ENGEBRETSON are: i. PHYLLIS JEAN SHERWOOD (21). ii. MARY LENORE SHERWOOD (22). 18. GLEN SHERWOOD. Child of GLEN SHERWOOD is: i. MARY EVALYN SHERWOOD, m. 25, 1852, Wisconsin; d. March 31, 1925, De Smet, South Dakota; buried at
De Smet, South Dakota. After the death of her husband, Louis, Elsie
moved to Dickinson, North Dakota, to be near her son, Eugene, and his
family. When the family moved to Mandan, Elsie remained in Dickinson.

family moved to Mandan.
